The Merchant of Existence

I traded my eyes for a glimpse of blue skies,
I traded my hands for the rough touch of sands,
I traded my nose for the scent of a rose,
I traded my tongue for a taste of the sun,
I traded my ears for sweet music to hear,
I traded my soul for a bucket of coal,
I traded my voice for a part in the chorus,
I traded my lips for one more desperate kiss,
I traded my feet to run barefoot through sleet,
I traded my legs for a jog through the dregs,
I traded my mind for ideas so fine,
I traded my heart for love and for art,
I traded my virtue for deeds as a hero,
I traded my sins for fowl wrongs to avenge,
I traded my tears for the salt of my years,
I traded my dreams for a sack full of beans,
I traded my laughter for cheer and good humor,
I traded my worries for troubles and hurries,
I traded my death to take one final breath,
I traded my life just to live one more time.
